TUROPOLJE PIGS

Free-range Paradise

The original Turopolje pig is an old, medium-sized breed with blonde fur. Their appearance is characterised by long drooping ears, strong legs, and a curly tail. Living outdoors year-round as they do, with pasture constituting most of their forage, they grow slowly for up to 2 years.

So named after their native Turopolje region in northern Croatia, these endangered pigs survive through a local breeding programme where the herd book is administered. Key to their survival is protection through use, of which we are proud to play a vital role. While Austrian ’Turopolje’ pigs are the result of breeding with various other types of pigs, most commonly the Hungarian Mangalica, ours are not cross-bred.

Our unique Turopolje pigs live a stress-free life in 15 hectares of rambling nature. This natural habitat enhances both their quality of life, and their meat quality. Thanks to intramuscular fat and fine muscle fibres, their meat is tasteful, firm, and marbled — and stays juicy and tender while roasting.
